Hello there, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing. And today is
Digital Friday so I thought I’d pull out my crystal ball and see if I could give you
a few predictions on where I think the world of social media marketing is headed.
It’s taken a few years but one can’t argue that social media is here to stay. What’s
really driving this is on the one side is all of this great technology that is allowing
us to access this social media content. We crave this content. On the other side companies
are finding success by creating that content and sharing it with their customers in all
sorts of interesting sort of ways. You’ve got technology, you’ve got demand and you’ve
got supply so that’s working really well.
It’s interesting to note and I’ve mentioned this in a previous blog that last year in
2011 there were one trillion views on YouTube. Customers out there are seeking out this content.
Now here are my five social media predictions. Now don’t hold me to them but I’m pretty
confident that they are going to happen sometime in the near term.
Now the first one is the proliferation of social media channels and apps. We see that
every day. More and more are coming online. You’re probably getting confused every single
day as to what channel or app you should use. That’s number one.
Number two means that with this proliferation there’s going to be a lot more content out
there. Tons more content. And if you think what we have available today is a lot just
wait until tomorrow.
Number three, of course, is choosing the right channel. You can’t be in all places at all
time so you’re going to have to be really smart as to where you position your digital
content and what social channel you’re going to use.
Now with all this content the big thing is going to be clutter. You’re going to be
bombarded daily, hourly, practically every minute with more social media content. What
going to happen in the future is there’s going to have to be ways to filter this content
so it actually reaches the desired customer. That’s number four.
And the last prediction, number 5 that I have, is that there’s going to be real-time responses.
Now that we have the ability to interact with our customers in some sort of social media
capacity they’re going to ask us a question, they’re going to want information and we
have the ability and the obligation to get back to them ASAP or even faster than that…immediately.
Regarding social media, it’s no longer a question of if but when. You absolutely have
to be embracing social media these days to be successful in the market place today. If
you are not in it, get in it. If you’re already using it then what you have to do
is figure out a way to be very smart in the delivery of your social media content. You
need to have great content and you need to be consistent. And as I’ve mentioned before,
you’re going to have to figure out a way to cut through the clutter. But if you can
do that you will find a market out there following your content.
That concludes Digital Friday. Try to stop by next week. And if you need some branding
support, please contact me to discuss an online or face to face service engagement. That information
can be found at the end of my video. I am Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a
Day Marketing and we will see you next time.
