So there are a few types of performances. There are stories that are more... like love stories, stories
which are less action-pack. Maybe one example is the Liang Zu (a character in chinese story,
butterfly lovers). The other one will be more action-pack,whereby there are fighting, lots
of fightings. They can be like stories from the 3 kingdoms, where we talk about battles
and wars among the the different countries.Another on will be from the legend,..(laughing about
wrong name of story)...Journey to the west.So we talk about the monkey kings and his adventures. So
there are many stories in this legend,so each stories practically will have monkey king
showing off his super powers, his transformation...and monkey king fighting the demons...so it will
be very action pack.So these are the 2 types of performances you can find in the traditional
chines gloves puppetry.
For the more romantic type,we will use puppets like this,(holding the scholar puppet), These
are scholars, and scholars usually are characters who do not know how to fight. But mainly they
are very good at reciting poems, very good at singing. So this is one example of a scholar, whereby
you can see his fingers are long and slender. But this particular hand lags the mechanism which
allow his fingers to flip. But at least it is correct in a way that he is showing off
his long slender fingers, His movements are more gentle, whereby they will jus walk (controlling
the puppet) very gently.(Controlling the puppet) Hmm... Or when he talks or recites poem,he
usually moves his head like this, in
a rotation. And then, for the ladies...(picking up the lady ppupet).. This is
an example of a femal character, who is usually use in the gentle(romantic) stories, because their movements and gestures are very lady-like. So
she will
walk with small gestures, and some times she will put an arm behind her
