So I know everybody's washed their hands before we've started
I'll be doing a little bit of observation tonight whilst I'm going as well
but tomorrow we're having the
community, the public to come in and do a bit of sample tasting and casting their votes as well
It'll be a bit like Len Goodman and the public on
Strictly Come Dancing
when we have a vote off and see who's actually won overall and then
tomorrow night
all the proceeds will be sold off
they'll go to charity
Best of luck everybody and I'll let you get on.
As part of the Fringe we thought it might be a nice idea to do a bake off, so I spoke to Julie about that
and she and the college were really keen. So next we spoke to the Sixth Form College
and again they were really keen to get involved. We wanted to be involved individually and personally as a team because we just feel like it's a great opportunity for the University to make links with the college and to make links with the sixth form and really informal and fun
it's
you know what's happening with it, you
can see exactly what's going into it, how it's made
I saw the flyers around the sixth form college
and I thought I may as well give it a go as I've been doing baking for around 10 years now. I started baking when my Dad first got together with his girlfriend
It used to be like
the weekend activities that we used to do, because we used to make cakes and cookies
and then in the past
3 or 4 years I've started making flap jacks and in the past 6 months I've started making cinder toffee as well.
Part
of us being involved with the University
is to use our facilities and part of that is to do a bake-off competition, British bake-off
it's the talk of the town, everybodies doing
all over the country and this is because we have an
industrial bakery
unit
then why not use our facilities, get people from the sixth form, from the college, from the
university to come together, use our facilities to have a bakery competition
if you're to watch the TV there's an awful lot of cookery programmes on but the
bake-off seems to be the bit that's taken off
i think it could be
going back to peoples childhoods, they enjoy bakery, the see what their partents
did, everyone's enjoying and again it's sweet it's tasty, it's relaxing
and that's just caught the market and the baking has taken off
more than any other part of the catering industry.
