What are you going to teach them? What's their work ethic going to be? How are you going
to teach them the value of life? How are you going to raise them? Kids, if you're listening
right now, what are you going to do? I want you to enjoy your life. I want you to enjoy
your childhood. Okay? After that, you've got to find something you're going to work toward.
If you're playing a sport, you do not quit. You do not quit that sport. I don't care what's
going on. I don't care if there's bullies, I don't care if there's people above you.
I don't care if you don't start. That's the biggest thing that I see with kids is they
will quit because they're not starting. You know how many years the kid in front of you
has been playing before you started and just because you walked on for the first two years,
you think you deserve something? No, you've got to work for it. Kids, you've got to work
for your spot. You've got to work for your life. You've got to work for your grades.
Because there's nothing in life that's going to be given to you. I don't care what any
teacher says. I don't care what anyone else says. You are not going to be given anything
and if you are, you're lucky. Okay? Because there's 99-percent of other kids out there
that don't have crap. And you're there complaining that you don't have a peanut butter and jelly
sandwich or you're not starting this week.
So you know what? Impress the coach. Next year, come in bigger. Come in faster. Come
in stronger. Be a better version of yourself. I don't care if you're a fifth grader, sixth
grader, high school, college -- a lot of you kids are just weak. You're not working hard
enough. Yeah, working for what you want. You don't step into the gym extra. You don't go
train with a coach. You don't get the levels have changed in sports. The levels have changed
in life. And if you guys just sit down and play Xbox and go on the computer and stay
on your iPhone and iPad, looking for a God-dammed Wi-Fi connection, and what's the password
so I can just sit down and do nothing, and then you expect to start? You expect to be
on the front line? You expect to be the captain? No way. Person that's going to step up is
going to be that surprise kid, that kid that no one even thought about and is working his
*** off in his basement with his father. His father didn't even teach him anything. He's
in that basement and start lifting these squats up. Take this dumbbell and start benching.
Do this thing. Pull yourself up and do gymnastics. Just work for something. It's going to be
the kid that didn't get an allowance. It's going to be the kid that had to get a job
in the summer, doing newspapers or mowing lawns or something like that. Understands
the value of a dollar. Those are the kids that are going to be successful. Those are
the kids that are going to move through in life.
If you think things are going to be given to you on a silver platter, be lucky. And
be appreciative. Because if you're one of those kids, that their parents just pay for
it and they want to see you grow and then you just do nothing about it, then you're
just wasting your mother's time. You're wasting your father's time. You're wasting their valuable
money, because you're too incompetent to understand what they're doing for you. You think you
deserve it? Hell no. You don't deserve it. You gotta earn it. And right now, if they're
paying for you to go to a gym and they're paying for you to lift, you better go there
and lift and stay committed. I don't care if Madden 2045 is out. If you gotta work out
on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, you work out Monday, Wednesday and Friday because your
parents are working their *** off to get you into the gym. And for those of you guys that
don't have anything, you better start running. You better start doing pushups, pull-ups.
Get a job. Do something. Work with someone. Volunteer. Do something for free. Understand
that giving more back and being able to learn how to work is going to help you out in life.
I'm not talking about your sports, guys. I'm talking about your life.
You guys are just starting up. For you guys to get that step ahead, you guys are going
to crush it. Football, wrestle, baseball, band, signing, chess -- I don't care what
you do. Practice, practice, practice. Get stronger, do something extra everyday. Lay
down and do pushups. Take foul shots. Take shots. Takedown drills. Do whatever it is.
Something extra everyday and every weekend and you will be successful.
But you have to look at success in a different light. Sometimes success isn't always winning.
Sometimes success isn't always being on top. Sometimes success is right there in front
of you. Learning how to lose. Learning how to come back from a huge loss. Learning how
to come back from just the pits of hell. And then working your way back up. Because I will
tell you right now, kids, life is not easy. Life is not going to be easy. No one is going
to give you a job. I don't care if you go to college for 85 years in a row, you still
gotta get a job. You've got to have character. Because if you don't have character, if you
don't have personality, if you don't have anything like that, social skills, you ain't
getting that job. I don't care if you have a 1700 on your SAT. I don't even know what
the SATs are anymore. I don't care what college you went do. I know tons of kids that went
to big-*** colleges and they're not doing anything. So learn work ethic. Learn to be
strong. Do something extra every single day. I don't care if you read one page of book,
that's still more than what you read yesterday. Okay? If you read one page everyday, after
a year you might have read two books. If you do 10 pushups everyday, that's 3,650 pushups.
But everyday you're getting stronger. Everyday you're building yourself up. So whether you
have it, whether it's given to you or it's not given to you, work for it. Work for it,
no matter what's in front of you. Stop making excuses and take it out. Guys, it's Pete,
peteisip.com; I'll see you guys later. Straight out of Maui -- check this out. Success.
