Today’s topic is related to the medical device the Artelon CMC spacer. I’m Scott
Harford. I’m a trial attorney with the law firm Lynch Daskal Emery here in New York.
I want to talk to you today about a medical device used in implants in thumbs called Artelon.
This is a picture of, a skeletal picture of a hand, and the Artelon device. It’s actually
a t-shaped device made of polyurethane that’s implanted right here at the base of a patient’s
thumb. It’s typically used to alleviate pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis,
or otherwise degenerative arthritis, suffered by patients. There have been a number of adverse
event reports however to the FDA regarding this product. Number one is a tissue-body
reaction that essentially rejects the product causing inflammation, pain, and bone deterioration
and loss in the thumb area. Also, the polyurethane material has been actually known to break
down in the thumb joint causing another painful surgery to remove the product. If you’ve
had an Artelon CMC spacer installed, we are here to help you. We represent individuals
harmed by medical devices every day. Call us, 1-800-585-1190. I’m Scott Harford. Thanks
for joining me.
