Every May, thousands of people gather in the shadows of two of Kansas City's most iconic
landmarks - the Liberty Memorial and Union Station. They come from throughout the Midwest,
children and veterans, friends and families. They come for patriotic reasons and for personal
reasons. They come to remember and to share a special experience. And above all, they
come to celebrate the tradition and solemn meaning of America's Memorial Day. It's the
greatest public event of a great city. Bank of America's Celebration at the Station with
the Kansas City Symphony. Bank of America's Celebration at the Station
with the Kansas City Symphony has become the most popular Memorial Day event in the Midwest.
More than 40,000 people bring their chairs, blankets, friends and family to what is arguably
Kansas City's most impressive public space. Celebration at the Station is a large-scale
multimedia entertainment event. There are world-class performances of classics and patriotic
pieces by the Kansas City Symphony under the direction of Michael Stern.
Poignant and inspiring presentations that dramatically capture the true meaning of Memorial
Day. To know you remember that we fought and we
bled is payment enough and that we will trust that we matter to you as you mattered to us.
And, of course, there are fireworks, the greatest display of fireworks in the Midwest, all set
against one of the most impressive and appropriate backdrops imaginable. Along with the many
people who see everything live, many more thousands have the opportunity to view the
event. Kansas City's KCPT Channel 19 television rebroadcast is picked up by a growing number
of PBS stations throughout the region every year.
What begins as a day of joy becomes a day of reflection and, finally, one of awe. Bank
