Well, my job now is to say goodbye to you all,
to say thank you to you all for coming
and thank you for your participation today
and all the things that you've been doing
and the things you've been saying and the discussions you've been having.
I also want to urge and encourage you after this
to come to the drinks reception at the Imperial War Museum
across the bridge, kind of that way,
which is sponsored by our friends and lovers, the British Council.
And also to say that the cloakroom here closes at nine o'clock,
so you don't have to lug your luggage across the bridge.
You just have to take yourself.
But you have to remember to get your case back afterwards.
There are a great many people to thank for today.
Thank you to the BBC, to Manchester and Salford City Councils,
to the British Council.
Thank you to Kirsty for chairing this conference.
(applause)
Thank you to Kirsty for being firm and fair.
(laughter)
And keeping us in order. We're on time.
Thank you to Manchester International Festival
for the pre-conference programme yesterday.
Thank you to the Lowry for hosting this event
and for all the helpful Lowry staff who've been stopping me getting lost,
well, sort of.
And also to Janet Archer of the Arts Council,
who was the moving spirit behind this event.
And staff at the Arts Council's north-west office,
many of whom are around today
in red T-shirts and helping out.
And also to members of the Arts Council comms team,
who've all been pitching in and making today possible.
I just want to say a little embarrassing thank you to Jim Tough,
our executive director of the north until two weeks ago.
He's now gone back to Scotland
to, in his words, paint his face blue.
He was an early moving spirit behind this conference
and has been keeping us right on many, many subjects
in the Arts Council over the last two years.
So, Jim, I can't actually see you, but... There he is.
Yeah, Jim, all the best and good luck from everyone in this room.
(applause)
So thank you for coming to this third State of the Arts conference.
There's a lot of themes come up, a lot of things for us to think about,
a lot of things for us all to think and talk about.
I hope you'll join me at the Imperial War Museum across the bridge.
- Thank you. - (Kirsty) Thank you very much indeed.
