This is a very special course because it is a special M-level course for people who are
already registered audiologists and want to take their education to the more advanced
level. My key motivations for taking the course were to further my career prospects and to
develop my knowledge and experience in audiology. For about ten years I've been involved professionally
in audiology. Latterly I've been thinking about enhancing my current knowledge and maybe
seeing where this knowledge could take careerwise. There are a lot of MSc Audiology courses that
are pre-Registration courses but this is something that we have developed only a couple of years
ago, very much based on the need that is out there. I really like audiology so I wanted
to go into it a little bt further. I was quite interested in the research side of it, I
wanted to gain some more research skills, and I think nowadays as well that MSc in Audiology
is - people do want that. It does improve your employment opportunities as well. The
best thing about this course ids that it is very flexible. It is very much designed for
people who are working clinically and don't have the time or the opportunity to be on
campus all the time, and so they can choose their modules that are appropriate for them
and interesting for them. They are tailored around you so the modules which you choose
are the ones best for use careerwise in the future. It's quite nice that you have the
option of doing it full-time or part-time so you can really build it around your job.
The benefits of the course for me personally are that its available both part-time and
full-time. For me I work so part-time access is absolutely perfect for me. The tutors have
been really helpful, they're really easy to get in touch with, they always have time to
meet with you, to discuss things, so they've been really helpful. All the lecturers have
intended learning outcomes so its clear what they want from you. The lecturers are easily-accessible
so you can contact them any time, and they're able to provide support for you and they also
provide revision sessions for the exams as well. Well, the University of Manchester has
been exceptionally good in terms of the guidance - online guidance, the lecturers have been
incredibly accommodating, and the facilities are fantastic, the library's second-to-none,
and I think in terms of its access, for me, it has been great. It's going to give me a
bit of an edge over other people, a bit more experience. This course - having a Master's
degree - obviously gives them enormous advantages in their career advancement. And, most importantly,
they will be better clinicians, and will be better positioned in devloping the services,
so at the end of the day I hope that their patients are the ones who benefit. So that's
our real aim.
