So we just finished a great capital campaign, it was finished early
the successful what believe in University history what's next
what we're going to do is two
sort of mini campaigns
focused on endowment for number one
student access so we can get more scholarships to
needy students, and number two faculty professorships
so we can endow more of our faculty lines and
provide those faculty with the additional resources they need to do
their work if you take a look at
how Drexel's operating budget works we draw very little from our endowment into our
operating budget I think we only get about
2 percent of our operating budget from endowment, that's a very low number, so
our endowment has to get bigger anyway
the next campaign or campaigns that we do really have to be endowment focused, and
they have to be people focused
and the two major assets we have in our university our students
and our faculty and what we want to do is make sure your that when
when students receiving financial aid packages, especially the most
qualified and especially among those the most needy
they will have sufficient money in their packages to come to Drexel
we can put a lot of operating dollars into that from our budget
I would like to see
more dollars coming from the endowment to support that, likewise on
professorships we have very few endowed
professorships we would like to have a lot more and we're hoping that there
will be
alumni and friends out who are going to want to say look I want my name on scholarship I'm
on my name a professorship
those dollars are very very powerful
ways in which we can extend you know the things that we're doing here because our
opporating budget is very strained
we're all tuition driven as we know, and we'll probably be tuition driven
for the long term if we can have more down to dollars coming in
to enhance scholarships and professorships not only will this have a
good effect
on our budget but more importantly
will have a good affect our ability to recruit and retain the best students and
the best faculty
