Today we're going to make a Mardi Gras bead which is also known as a harlequin bead. What
we need to do first is pick our colors. So today we're going to use traditional Mardi
Gras colors. We're going to use a transparent amethyst, a transparent emerald green, we're
going to use black as a base, and in order to make the transparent colors show up on
the black, we're going to use a white color underneath the transparents. Also we're going
to use a gold or light topaz color. In this bead what we'll be doing is using again, the
black for the base and, we'll be using a series of dots to create an effect that looks like
a harlequin pattern. These beads can be done in any color variations, but in order to suit
the Mardi Gras festivity colors better, the topaz, the green, and the emerald are really
probably the way to go. I've seen these done in cocoa colors; I've seen them done in reds.
Basically, pretty much as with any bead style, you can do a variation of colors ranging from
anything from more neutral colors to the brighter colors. And today, we're going to use the
ones that I've chosen.
