Massage.
Hi everybody this is Gregory Gorey and today we are going to be doing some
basic
back massage techniques.
First thing we are going to do is just
work down the spine a little
coming up onto the hips
and working our way back up. And with both hands getting a nice little
stretch into the low back. Doing some
myofascial work.
Decompressing the lumbar spine.
Now we're going to
move along the spine.
So
you arem't going to be directly on the spinous process, the little
bony landmark that's popping out. You're
coming right to the side
and just
digging it out,
inch by inch, segment by segment.
Same thing on the other side.
Normally I would move to the other side of the table but that would
block our
viewing angles.
I'm feeling for any
nodules. That's a little
bundled right there.
From there we're gonna get a little
lotion or oil and do
kind of a similar
stroke but
this will
offer a little more glide. We're gonna come in
to their forearms.
Now what's important with this is that
you aren't actually...
you can use your elbow, but that's going to be really pointy.
It's better to have a bigger surface so I like to use
about that much of my forearm as I
come down
and I scoop this out.
You want to make sure when you're doing this that you're not actually you are actually
riding on
the bones. You shouldn't feel a bump bump bump bump because you're going
down the spine.
You should be
just off to the side of it.
Coming down
scooping out the
quadratus lumborum attachment.
Same thing on the other side.
Now that we got that tissue nice and warmed up
we're actually going to try to get some of these lateral erectors
and possibly a little subscap by getting underneath there. So what I'm going to do is
put her hand
right there.
I'm gonna grab her by the shoulder
and then I'm gonna come in either with my thumb or with a couple fingers
and just create a little space to
get down into those
muscles that would normally
be blocked from being able to be touched.
From there we are going to release the lats,
scooping all that out.
Same thing on the other side.
Again, normally i would be on the other side of the table.
From there we're going to get into
upper trapezius a little bit.
More lotion.
The normal inclination with
the upper trapezius
is to
scoop this way
but for most people
it's actually more beneficial
to try to bring the tissue back.
The
lats tend to spread this way and we want to bring all of that back.
Same thing on this side. This time I'm using
my fist,
scooping that up.
And you can come on
both sides. Just a little
alternating back and forth.
Alright well thanks for checking in again.
