Marula oil is the secret ingredient in lots of our make-up.
We source it from the Eudafano Women’s Co-operative in Namibia,
which is owned and run entirely by women.
Marula oil comes from the fruit of the marula tree,
which are native to central and southern Africa
Marula trees are key to the livelihood of the co-operative.
Harvesting the fruit safeguards the women’s source of income,
and helps to keep the land sustainably productive.
First, the women of the co-operative gather the ripened fruit of the marula tree.
Then they extract the oil-rich kernels by hand.
At the factory the kernels are cold pressed to release the marula oil inside.
The 5,000 women of the co-operative tell us that running their own factory has given them new entrepreneurial skills,
and greater status in their communities.
It’s also given them a regular income to support their families.
You’ll find marula oil in our new beautifying oils, as well as in many of our make-up collections.
