>>Erik: How do you define success in what you do?
>>Scott: I think success is an extraordinarily subjective thing. In what I do personally
it`s very difficult because success is subjective and writing is subjective and art is subjective.
Not everyone is going to love what you do. A lot of great writers and artists in their
lifetimes were never appreciated, or maybe they were thought to be hacks. It`s very important
for any writer or artist or musician to realize you have to write for yourself or as some
people say, for one person. Have an audience of one. My brothers and my family are always
my first readers. My goal is if I can make people think a little bit and laugh a little
bit and enjoy the read, then I`ve done my job. I feel like a successful writer. It`s
really important not to get bogged down in the financial situation and say oh if I can
get my book to sell 10,000 copies or 500,000 copies or a million copies, then it gets abstract,
then how many more copies do you need to sell to feel like you were successful?
