Hello, it's Nichole Kellerman here; founder and creator of Successful Weight Loss School
where women go to stop dieting, reshape their bodies & feel wildly alive. Today starts a
2-part series on fats. Because honestly fats are the most misunderstood macronutrient out
there and all fats are not created equally. So today we're focusing on the bad fats and
what are trans fats exactly. First we had saturated fats. So, saturated fats are found
in all animal products or all sorts of dairy products. Meat obviously is high in saturated
fats. And saturated fats are not good for your cholesterol because that makes your bad
cholesterol grow up. Remember that we have two different types of cholesterol HDL, which
our good cholesterol and LDL, which is bad cholesterol. And how I remember that in school
is H stands for 'happy'. Okay, saturated fats make your cholesterol a bad cholesterol go
up. You're not the healthiest thing if you have high cholesterol. The doctor probably
told you that you need to start watching your animal intake. So, the other side is Trans
fat. Now I'm going to try to make this short and simple as much as possible because I actually
took a pretty awesome nutritional class in massage school and I did project in all Trans
fats. The bad thing about Trans fat is it actually (we are talking about the good and
bad cholesterol) make your bad cholesterol go up and your good cholesterol goes down.
So that is a double hit on your cholesterol. Really not good. And Trans fat is actually
so bad for your body that they banned it in other countries. But Trans fat is a preserving
mechanism. It's to keep things on the shelf longer. So if you have things in your pantry
right now that could stay there longer for 6 months, honestly, you should dump it. Get
rid of it. It is not good for you. It is only doing harm to your body. So to give you a
good visualization on what exactly that process is. You have these two different types of peanut
butter. And one has the oil in the top that is the natural one. And the other one is all
thick and you take it over and it doesn't come out right. In really basic terms, they're
doing is taking that oil and they're mixing it like Cresco, which Cresco is pure Trans
fat. So isn't that disgusting? Remember you are what you eat. You know Cresco looks like.
You don't want to be looking at that right? That's kind of a good visualization for you.
And here is the hinder. This is the thing that really pisses me off to be totally honest
is the FDA regulated this law that if there is less than .5g of trans fat per serving
of the product, they can advertise Trans fat free. Isn't that such a load? There's a product
out there that say, Trans fat free, No Trans fat. And you know it there's a Trans fat in
them because all they did is not downing their serving size low enough to where they can
advertise that. So that way that you find it is to turn over all of your ingredients
and you read if there's any hydrogenated anything is in there, there s Trans fat in there and
you need to ditch it. It s not good for you. Don't read those labels. They're deceiving and
it's wrong in my opinion. So, there's your little Trans fat in a video from me to you
