Instructional Design is part creative arts and part science which utilizes theoretical as well as
practical research in the areas of cognition, education technology, information technology, graphic
and web design and problem solving. Instructional Design aims to create the best instructional environment and learning
materials to bring a learner from a state of not knowing, not feeling, and not being able to accomplish certain tasks
to a state of knowing, feeling, and being able to accomplish those tasks in a given subject area through carefully
organized interactions with information, activities, and successes. To an Instructional Designer,
that definition makes perfect sense.
To others, including some faculty members, it might seem pretty confusing. So engaging faculty
in the instructional design process can be challenging at times.
In the eEducation Institute, we employ a philosophy of teaching the faculty we work with
to fish. In this case, the fish, is developing their course. One of the
ways we do this is a course blue printing process. You would not build a house
for someone without a blueprint, so why would try to help someone build a course without one?
Our session will introduce you to this and other freely available resources.
You will also meet two faculty members who will share their experiences using the
blueprint with you.
