every thursday were joined by dennis campbell dennis is editor in chief of
the u_k_ progressive magazine also host of world view we dennis campbell on
youtube at youtube dot com slash world view show dennis you did a number of
interviews surrounding the boston marathon bombing over the last few days
and i'm curious
give us a sense of different parts of the world
how did the questions they ask and the coverage they do
how does it differ from the kind of standard corporate media u_s_ coverage
that we've gotten
well the uh... there's quite a bit of background that's required first you
know having grown up in boston and you know so the surrounding areas it's uh...
they want to know a little bit more about
why this is such a big day in such a big event why so many people with their
and uh... you know but i'm not finished explaining but it's patriots day that
it's a holiday
that's a traditional family day in that i i went to school at boston college and
what i have to explain the difference between college and university
up you know that that it doesn't necessarily applied the americans tend
to call every university a college now as opposed to up here were college is a
a school for people that are pretty much ages of seventeen to about twenty where
they
levitt read yes you have to explain the differences between things are
then mostly interested culturally
and then they start to move into questions about well how could something
like this happened and what were some of the causes
and be there i was able to talk uh... a little bit more extensively about the
domestic terrorism angle although i've been very vocal in my outrage with uh...
uh... representatives vote came in his uh... homeland security committee
uh... focusing on brown skinned moslem and
as opposed to the enemy within if you look at all the events that are going on
in this weekend historical significance of you know tax there there are cases
that candidate
this is also the anniversary of waco of uh... the branch davidian building the
uh...
oklahoma city bombing of virginia tech
depict the list goes on all the columbine setter it's particularly
historically bloody week and when people get their perspective that you cannot
you can almost see the light bulb go on their face for the next question
opposes domestic terrorism hall where when why
so would you say that in the interviews you've done
there's been more earl s focus on the background of the perpetrator or or
perpetrate orders which we don't yet know then what there is in the u_s_
uneven most part the email will we see is this the
the need for perspective
uh...
you know i thought might be in that scene car bombs i've seen uh... in a
real uh... acts of terrorism in in the middle east on the part of the world as
have other parts of the world
and yes it is indeed
extraordinarily project that they were
uh... a number of people killed in injured and respected was
if you look at this this was more of a
off for show
uh... fingers in new
the eyes of the world would be on boston would be on the finish line for that
particular race
and just as is often the case with uh...
remember this is going back to normal event
uh... i can remember of very dear friend of mine was a uh... associate director
of the and friend house and the american bassinger came over to
sign condolence books shortly after the twin towers of follow
and this person really had the soul of uh... at least rhetorically sloppy
ambassador across the face per se excuse me
but you at that time i thought there were five thousand people killed he said
that during the two world wars in europe
there was the equivalent of a nine eleven today everyday for thirty years
so we tend to lose perspective
wanted it happens to us and i never meet it was particularly difficult during
interviews
about an incident like this happening in my home town
only when the b_b_c_ came here to do but one of those segments
the other guy said i was at yours at a red sox company put next to my boston
college flat
i didn't think much about it when he was filming it and you know push you
you when you when you see some of that this happened a business as you know
yugo me delete into reporting molded into gathering news and out and fax
wasn't so late at night when i actually viewed that
the piece that they put together and saw that simple shaw
the boston
uh... red sox capitol series apm two thousand seven
panel at that it really hit home with a minute
this happened in my own hometown yeah i know what you mean by the way please do
send that peace i would love to check it out and and
maybe our will put it in the description for this video store on teens can see it
if it's available but same thing with these actually i i i put it up on world
news show because what i did was a either i was i was worldwide cut out the
next morning um... i'd opposite captured at all for the arts where on the screen
capture
out so the piece falls and and i had been turned the lights on here in studio
or anything i just love
it had to offer my heart directly to camera so this is some
yet it's really rough when it happens in your own hometown as i was uh... really
broken up by and uh... and then russia's needed to make peace from from bbc
and uh... they've really did a fabulous job and that's the other thing alone
about working with them and we
aljazeera c_n_n_ in all these other top-flight what works is that
they've got
really good strong sense of of of video and telling a story
follows the fax line not creating things out of florida shipments to the fox and
you know some of the other crazy places where you've got a so much trouble
yesterday in the day before
by speculating that there was somebody in custody when there's nobody in
custody and then getting ahead of the story that's just not something they
they do here
they'd really do try to stick to the fact pattern
they try to revise you against him do too much speculation
well make sure to check out the interview has been tested over on the an
easy to tell you to dot com slash world you show what else is coming up on night
your channel dennis
well tonight we're going to have all of that was a little different interviews
of course we had the funeral yesterday four
of aristotle
and uh... malcolm ginsburg is uh... of very famous journalist here in this
country
uh... for the aviation industry so we're going to talk about
how privatization and thatcherism affected the
an industry solicited those of you interested in airlines and air travel
into the business travel would be interested to hear it in history between
the how british airways came into being from the merger deal where you see and
be he had a so it's uh...
a bit of a fun piece and a look back at some of them
of more flamboyant things that uh...
baroness thatcher did around those times in terms of getting people who would
eventually run
the airlines and uh...
alright make sure not to miss any videos over on dennis is channel could you
queue dot com slash world view shell hit subscriber
and that's uh... that's the easiest way we've been speaking with dennis campbell
his editor in chief of u_k_ progressive magazine dennis thank you as always and
will talk to you next week
