UC3M Research Report
The group specializes in urban planning activities
and territorial cohesion,
although it deals with other connected subjects, especially environmental.
There are about 20 permanent researchers.
It started in 2000,
but stems back to the establishment of the Institute in 1990.
The idea is to gather enough information to be able to tackle
both the doctrinal as well as the practical aspect
of all complex problems brought about
the territorial planning and development ordinance,
that is, the lay-out of the co-existence areas
where we live our day-to-day lives.
The research initially follows along
the lines of comparative law
in the territorial planning and development ordinance,
up to the aspect of public health and safety
in the urban environment
and, at present, all that is related to the climate change.
We also externalize our services,
especially to the Administration.
As specific cases, we can point out
our participation in the territorial planning of Minorca Island,
winner of the National Urban Planning and Development Award.
As current and ongoing cases, for example,
the consultancy services we are rendering
in the revision of the General Plan of Madrid.
We have been able to establish permanent collaboration,
both in training and in research,
with European Universities, especially with Bochum, in Germany;
with North American Universities like Fordham, New York;
the University of Columbia.
And with Latin American Universities
like ITAM, Mexico, and Externado, Colombia.
