A severe weather system bringing cold temperatures, high winds and even snow is blamed for at
least three deaths in the West.
Winds reported at more than 60 miles per hour walloped the San Francisco Bay area Thursday
night, uprooting trees and knocking out power to thousands. Two men in Oakland were killed
because of the storm. (Via KRON)
KGO-TV reports one of the men drove into a tree that was knocked over by the wind. The
other man was reportedly electrocuted after stepping on a downed power line.
The wind from the same storm has added more fuel to a fire burning in Napa. (Via CNN)
Since then, the storm has moved south. Snow and ice are being reported in places as far
south as Texas, while parts of Arizona, Nevada and even southern California have been placed
under winter storm warnings. (Via NBC)
Other parts of the Southwest are seeing heavy rain. Parts of southern Arizona have gotten
soaked with more than four inches of rain since Thursday. Near the Mexican border, rain
totals have reached at least six inches over the past 48 hours. (Via WCVB)
All that extra rain means flash flooding. A helicopter had to rescue several trapped
because of the flood waters in California. Rain from the system was still falling in
the southwest Saturday morning. (Via WNBC)
Forecasters say the weather-maker will move to the East as millions get ready to travel
for Thanksgiving.
