I'm Breton Cruz, and I've worked here
for about four and a half years now.
I work here at the federal courthouse branch of Challenge Enterprises.
And as of recently, I've been the acting
night shift supervisor. The interaction between
the employees and the supervisors
and our project manager Gladys especially,
its one of
tolerance and patience for people who have really struggled in
holding down work in regular society.
And that was certainly the place I was at
at the time I came here. Breton has been struggling with a disability
most of his life. He was afraid
to go to the movie theater, going out in public,
any public place, he was afraid
because he felt that people were looking at him.
You look back when he first came aboard
and you look at him now, he couldn't socialize with none of his peers.
Now dealing with his employees,
he has a lot of patience, I mean, he's easy going.
And he give them encouragement everyday.
He's very compassionate with the guys. He's very willing to show them,
if they make a mistake, he's lenient. I always make it a point to,
to show the same patience and compassion that was that was given to me
when I started here. And, you know,
I never hesitate the pull somebody to the side
and give them a few words of encouragement if they're struggling.
So it's all about second chances and
providing a learning work environment for people here.
I would like for him to further his education. That's something he couldn't do in the past. He could not work
and go to school.
And when he did try, he'd crash and burn.
Now he's in his second year of college, so I'm hoping that he will fulfill his dream.
As soon as he walked into the door, I was probably one of the first people that he met
on the morning shift you and so we kinda developed a little friendship,
on and off of work.
So it's pretty good to see him progressing and see him getting what he deserves in my opinion.
I've seen it myself, I've seen
people come here and go through pretty much the same metamorphosis
that I went through.
People come in with very different problems than ones that I had
but I've noticed that whatever it is,
they eventually do overcome it
I've had prior work experience, but nothing of any real value.
Flash forward to today,
wherever I go in the future,
any employer is gonna look at my time here
and he's gonna say you know I was really an asset
to the company I worked for, and in turn I'd be an asset for whatever company
I went to from here.
