Hi, my name is Sheryl McGlochlin with crazysheryl.com and on behalf of expertvillage.com we like
to talk about where you can actually go snowshoeing. There is lots of places most people like to
get away from the city. However, in the beginning it is really good to talk about or to start
walking or practicing your snowshoeing in a park or a school area or even in your backyard.
Once you get into a more wilderness area or isolated area you need to be familiar with
the turf that you are on. For instance there have been people that we know that have gone
up to the mountains and they saw this big beautiful wide open area where they though
was a beautiful meadow underneath and it was really a lake. So you want to be familiar
with the area and know where to go before you actually or know what the turf is like
before you actually go on the snow. Lots of times there are things that are lurking underneath
that you are not aware of if you have not hiked in that area in the summer time when
there was no snow. Hills are great to being able to walk up hills. However, in our mountains
here in Utah there is a lot of avalanche danger and especially with mountains that have a
35 degree of slop you need to stay away from and be familiar with avalanche territory
. That is where you can go.
