When I was in the sixth grade I learned how to knit and I have been addicted to fiber
arts since then. Every since I learned to knit I just wanted to learn everything about
it. So knitting turned into felting and then felting turned into spinning, and I just love
it. And now I am trying to learn as much about the animals.
I have several local farmers that I purchase my fleece from. And I get to go down there
and I can meet the animals. I get to see the farmer and what they have been up to on the
farm this year. I get the fleece which is kind of the goat of the sheep or alpaca, and
I get it straight from the farm so it still smells like a farm it still has vegetable
matter and from there I get to clean it and dye and comb, spin and everything from there.
What I love about fiber arts is it started off as a necessity . Everybody needed yarn
to make their clothing, blankets and everything. But know it has become more of an art form
and expression and I really like that. You can put your heart into it.
My favorite fiber artist is Ester Rodgers from Jazz Turtle Creations and she has completely
taken fiber arts to a whole new level . She just spins what ever she feels like whether
it is fiber or not. She will put like Barbie heads into her yarn or *** hose or whatever
she feels like. And what I love about fiber arts also is that it's a community.
A lot of artist like to protect their secrets. But fiber artist are not like that because
it is an art that is starting to fade away. They are really about sharing all that they
know with the next generation I think that is really cool.
Anybody who likes fluffy things is obviously going to have patience and warm fuzzies for
others.
