This is an interaction badge.
These are used at Autreat and other conferences
where people may be interacting in ways that are considered
"non-normative"
or in some cases neuroatypical.
The interaction badge has three colors.
The green badge means
"You can approach me; you can talk to me; I'm ready for
any kind of interaction."
The yellow badge is generally kind of a caution signal.
I wrote on mine, "Please approach me only if I know you."
Sometimes yellow also flags,
"I am available for interactions,
but I don't want to initiate any."
And then,
red generally means, "I'm not available for interaction at this time."
So Melanie actually gave me this
set of badges from her Autreat--
was this from Autreat this year? (Melanie) No, it wasn't from Autreat. (Margaret) Oh, where is it from? (Melanie) The Administration of Developmental Disabilities Allied Self-Advocacy Summits that they held last year.
(Margaret) Oh, okay. (Melanie) But it's modeled after Autreat.
(Margaret) Okay. But it's safe to say these were originated at Autreat? (Melanie) Yes.
(Margaret) And then I also have
an old name tag.
I'm actually in favor of wearing name tags in all settings
because I can't remember names.
And we'll talk more about our
autism buttons [later].
Oh, and I also have a "Gender Free Washrooms Now!" button, just because it fit on my badge.
