Fresno State's First Nations American Indian Student Organization held its 22nd annual
powwow on Saturday at O'Neil Park just off campus.
A powwow is a Native American spiritual celebration marked with dancing, with each
tribe having its own individual style. The event was meant to raise social awareness
regarding Indigenous people around Fresno. First Nations brought together people of different
tribes in the area to share their culture and traditions with the community.
First Nations club president Adam Moreno was excited about how the turnout went this year.
MORENO: "It's for anyone. Everyone loves coming out here. You always take something
away with you when you leave. It's very relaxing."
Food, clothing and jewelry, music, art and crafts were featured in addition to the dances.
The powwow started in the morning and lasted all day, with an encore of all the dances
in the evening. CHRISTOPHER COSTELLO, The Collegian at Fresno State.
