We are Akribi and we're standing here on Kebnekaise.
Well, we're not really standing here. This is shot with a green screen.
But in the middle of June we'll play here ... for real. Furthest up on the peak.
Why?
Each year more than 200.000 mothers die because of their pregnancies.
And we're not counting those who die from illegal abortions. Bad laws kill them, not insufficient resources.
Kebnekaise is just over 2100 metres tall. Or if you will, 210.000 centimetres tall.
This means that one mother dies from her pregnancy for each centimetre that Kebnekaise is tall. Not many people know this
We have founded a non profit organization to fight this problem.
By playing up there we hope to raise awareness about this problem and for Doctors Without Borders' work against maternal mortality.
This is the first step. After this we'll start raising money for Doctors Without Borders' to fight maternal mortality.
