Hi, I'm Alan Durden with the NC Cooperative Extension in Macon County.
Today we're going to talk to you about how to install a landscape plant.
The first thing you want to do is look at your site.
When you're putting landscape plants in there are two things that can cause failure.
One of them is not putting the right plant in the right place
and the other is incorrect planting procedure.
This is a gallon size Blue Medusa Rush and in looking at it,
I don't see any evidence of fungal infection no dead areas and no spots.
Normally you want to dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball itself
and about the same depth as it is in the nursery. The plant will settle a little bit
so you might even want to plant it a half inch higher or so.
What we are going to do is scratch up the root ball
You can see the top of the plant is about level with the shovel
so we can move that out of the way.
Now we will use our hands and pull the backfill back into the soil
back into the hole and we will try and take
our landscape fabric and lay it back down.
A little final finishing with my hands. OK and now you can see our finished product.
