Hi my name's Dave Ross and I'm a project manager here with Citrus Technology.
Today I'm going to show you a free download that we have. It's a debugging tool called Provider Explorer.
The purpose behind the tool is to let you inspect an OLE or ODBC connection.
Basically you type in a connection string. There're example connection strings on htpp://citrustechnology.com and the help file
Here I'm looking at an Excel spreadsheet
Press "connect". I can now see the tables, columns, reserved words etc.
If I go back to tables, and select a row and use that as a filter, and go back to columns.
I now only see the columns that are on that table
If I clear the filter, I get to see all the columns again.
The General tab shows you other properties of the connection.
What you'll tend to find is that not all of these are supported by all data types.
So for example trustees, translations, privileges, etc. are not supported by Excel, but there you go.
The Help tab. A little bit of help available via the release notes.
And if you click on here you can see the installed OLE drivers.
I'll change that to ODBC and try again. You can now see the ODBC drivers I've installed on this machine
And that's it. It's just a simple tool, the main purpose is for debugging and for testing connections strings.
It's available for free from http://www.citrustechnology.com/products/data-provider-explorer
