So, today we're going to start getting involved in some jazz work. We're going to start from
the very, very beginning, from the ground up. You probably are familiar with this ride
cymbal pattern, which is the common staple of jazz. So we're going to talk about how to develop
that, the best ways to think about it, and how to coordinate it with some of the other
limbs. What else we can do with that. But also, we're going to talk about what other
exercises we can do; including using the book Syncopation, which I did two whole series
on, Doing Jazz with Syncopation, and a lot of other related topics. And then the idea
is being able to embellish that ride pattern in a number of different ways; like this for
example.
So the idea is really to have this, what's called the jazz swing pattern built in, and
then to be able to start embellishing it and changing it around any way you want for jazz
purposes.
