John Hick is an absolutely monumental figure in phiolosophy of Religion, which is my own
area. I remember when I was at school, which was probaby fourteen years ago now, I had
heard of him then - he was on the a level syllabus- and there are students coming into
university now who have heard of him. He is one of the main they will of heard of. He
deals with many of the most important issues for theologians, for philosophers and really
just human beings. Issues like why God allows evil, what evil is, how we can interpret other
religions, how we can interpret our own faith. I think he does it in a way that's very philosophically
rigorous, but also he shows so much humanity and compassion at the same time and he really
brings the tow together. Which is not a common combination, but a very valuable one. So that's
one of the ways in which he's a superb figure and contribution.
