Maria Doulton: Today, I'm at the famous Tiffany store on Fifth Avenue and I'm here because it's a very important day. Today,
Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin unveiled The Great Gatsby Collection.
Now, these 20 jewels are the very pieces that Carey Mulligan and the other stars of The
Great Gatsby wore on the film. These jewels will tour the world following the film premieres
and will be sold to clients who want a piece of the film itself.
I spoke to John King who was in charge of this project at Tiffany, and he tells us about
Tiffany's history and how it relates to everything that was happening in the same time as Scott
Fitzgerald wrote his famous book "The Great Gatsby".
John King: Catherine Martin and Baz Luhrmann first came to Tiffany almost two years ago,
and they came to Tiffany with the assumption that based on the role that we played in New
York at that time that perhaps there would be something that they could discover that
would inspire their work within the movie.
Very quickly I think they found that they were overwhelmed by the archives at Tiffany
and our passion for this time period.
Maria Doulton: Another important collection was launched today as well, and that's Tiffany's
once a year Blue Book Collection. This year the Blue Book Collection you won't be surprised
to hear is inspired by the jazz age.
Melvyn Kirtley: The jazz age was a fascinating time for us because it was a period of great
optimism, so I guess that optimism really linked into our enthusiasm for design, creating
design, sort of catching on the coattails of that in a sense.
It's an incredible collection for us this year, you know, once a year we launch our
Blue Book collection which is really our most important statement jewellery.
This year it's a very, very special collection of over 200 pieces, and I think really puts
us again at the forefront of what we're most well-known for which is our incredible design
and craftsmanship.
So this wonderful collaboration of both, the influence from what was needed from the movie
and what Catherine had suggested and us being able to kind of bring that to life. We have
the most incredible tanzanite, savarite, morganite, kunzite, pink diamonds, these are gemstones
we introduced.
We've got it, we really have it all in this collection, it's fantastic.
Maria Doulton: A third collection of jewellery has also been launched called the Ziegfeld
Collection, and as its name suggests, this collection of jewels that are more accessibly
priced is all about the fun and the joy that was the jazz age of New York.
John King: One can really adopt the spirit of the time period and the style at all price
points.
Maria Doulton: Fantastic. Thank you very much.
John King: My pleasure.
