Hello, everybody! David here, and what I want to show you today is how to convert a
PowerPoint presentation to video format
so that you can upload it to YouTube.
Now, why would you want to do this?
Well, maybe you don't have a good camera so you can't take a video of yourself.
Or maybe you just don't have a cameraman. Heh.
Or maybe you don't want to appear in your videos
because you're afraid that someone will
see you
on the Internet.
Or
even if you do have a camera and you can appear in your videos
PowerPoint presentations
can enhance your video
by a lot,
so
why not do it?
Now, I want to show you a little something: a little feature in PowerPoint.
You probably saw me use this already.
It's the laser pointer feature.
I'll be showing you had to get this little red dot on screen.
So, as you can see, we have a four-leaf clover here, you know.
So... without any further ado,
let's get to it!
All right, let me show you what not to do. I'm just gonna play this video on YouTube here
all right? OK, you can see that it's a statue of a
pigeon, right? Let's scrub forward.
Scrub forward in the video.
You can hear someone talking
in the background, but it's just...
It's just a statue of a pigeon! There's nothing visual going on.
Come on!
This is not a YouTube video of an MP3 file.
Come on. All right, we gotta do better than this.
So, as you can see here, I'm in Microsoft PowerPoint
2010
and what I'm going to do is I'm going to convert this presentation
to... um...
I'm gonna convert this presentation to
video format so that we can put in a video editor and get it on YouTube.
um... so this is the same presentation that I
showed at the beginning of this video. There are
uh... there are four slides. Just four slides.
And I'm just going to
show you how to convert this to a video in PowerPoint 2010.
Now, if you don't have version 2010 or later
that's all right. I'll show you
an alternative way of converting this to a video
later.
One thing to note is that, when you're on YouTube, the aspect ratio of the video
is 16:9 widescreen, so when you setup your PowerPoint presentation
come to the Design tab, choose Page Setup, and change "Slides sized for"
change this option to 16:9
and then click OK.
That'll stretch your presentation out
to fill YouTube. Just ignore those notifications going on up there.
What I'm going to do now is record narrations and
um...
rehearse the slide timings. What this will do is tell PowerPoint
how quickly to advance the slides and animations.
and um...
It'll also
uh... record
my narration
One thing to do is to make sure you come down here,
right-click speaker icon, choose Recording Devices, and make sure you have the
right microphone selected
otherwise you might
record What U Hear or you might record the wrong
microphone just select the right one
and make sure that it's set as the default.
I'm going to record the slideshow... just hit the Record Slide Show button here on the
Slide Show
tab
and
make sure both these are checked because I want to record times I wanna record
narration
and laser pointer... we'll get to in a moment
Hello, there!
David here
and blah blah blah blah blah
Why would you want to do this?
Well
maybe
you have Reason A,
Reason B, or Reason C. blah bla bla bla bla bla bla.
Yeah.
Ooh, laser pointer demonstration. Now
Laser pointer: Hold down the Ctrl key
and click the left mouse button
and that'll bring up this little dot in PowerPoint.
It works in version 2010. I don't know what version
Microsoft added that feature to PowerPoint but
It's the Ctrl key
and left mouse button. Click and drag hold down the left mouse button and then
you have a little laser pointer.
Great. Advance the slide by clicking.
and yes thanks for watching
and be sure to subscribe to my channel.
End of slide show, click to exit.
Or, actually, it's not gonna ask me to click to exit.
Now, when you're done with that, PowerPoint will automatically switch to Slide
Shorter view. I don't know why it does that. Just come down here and
flip it back to Normal
Now, you'll notice that there are now these um...
these little speaker icons
which open the Audio Tools tabs up there.
Also, on the Transitions tab, you'll notice that the
slides will now automatically advance after a certain
time and that
is rehearsed.
So, basically, now, we're going to export this to video
so click on File
choose Save & Send
hit Create a Video.
For the resolution, you're gonna want to select 1020x720
which is a large one selected by default.
If that's not the right number, then
you probably forgot to come to Design, hit Page Setup, and change that to 16:9
Come back here...
Be sure that this is set to "Use recorded times and narrations" or if you don't want
to then
set it to that, and it will just spend five seconds on each side, but I want
narrations.
So I'm just going to hit Create Video.
I already did this earlier. That's why that file is there.
I did that incorrectly. So I'm going to overwrite it.
Do I want to replace? Yes, I want to replace.
PowerPoint will
hum
for a bit
and you can see, down here, it says "Creating video"
Now, while it's doing that
let's talk about what to do if you don't have
PowerPoint 2010.
Well, what I did before version 2010 was I used a screen
recorder.
I use BB FlashBack Express to record my screen.
You can download it free of charge; you just have to
fill out your name and stuff and it'll give you a license
free of charge.
Basically, you can start the screen recorder,
come here
go to From Beginning
and do basically what I just did: talk, use the laser pointer, and it'll just
record your screen.
That's the alternative.
I personally prefer to do it the video way because I can actually get the
1280 by whatever the other number was...
It was 1280 by 720. Whereas
my screen here
is actually
only uh...
1200 by 800.
I think.
Is it? No, 1280 by 800.
That's the resolution of my computer screen.
That's it. We'll just let it convert this video, and then we'll
uh...
watch it later. OK, Emily, go eat dinner!
Hello, there!

She's the one with that video that I showed you earlier with that statue of a pigeon
with her talking in the background.
Even though her video editing skills aren't all that great
she does know a lot about
pigeon genetics
and she's a frillback pigeon breeder.
So
if you're interested in pigeon genetics or a pigeon breeding or just genetics
in general
do go and subscribe to her channel.
I'll put the link in an annotation and in the description below.
Also subscribe to my channel because I am awesome,
