and literally as we were about to go up on air today we got more details about
another shooting this one near the university of maryland campus
it's being called a *** suicide to university of maryland students are dead
if there is in serious condition following
of shooting early in the morning which police are calling a ***-suicide this
this started around one in the morning at sutter home on uh... thirty six seven
three students let their the houses at an intersection about a block from the
campus and police investigators believe that one of the roommates lit a fire in
the basement of the home
and his two roommates confronted him about it
they all went outside to the front of the house with a student who started the
blaze shot one of the roommates
the second roommate tried to run away gunmen shot him as well the suspect went
to the back of the house where he turned the gun
on himself according to police
to steer thankfully this is just it's everyday these if these are the five
stories today
involving shootings are killings
we could've picked five otherwise we could pick twenty we could just do a
show we just talk about shootings it said it's constantly sys-con stat
i'm almost time almost just
feeling like
we should stop talking about the shootings because it's just the normal
thing
yes will it will anything change you know it really is not a problem with it
if media stop talking about shootings in time because they're so commonplace
would they go away with a stop
well i think it's it's a question of how they're covering it did through there
just covering as
of this happened and i think it's a relevant to cover it that way but if
they're gonna cover and then stake out a and opinion on this means that we need
to have serious gun control mental health changes in the country
i think that it would be good
you know this was uh... this was touched on in bowling for columbine and we've
talked about before have media coverage
of things like this are facts
you everyone and everything and i sense of fear and paranoia and and violence
and
i mean it they compared of course us to canada and they go to canada and show
the news broadcast in talking about speed bumps now and uh... just about
every news brought broadcast here uh... you're gonna hear by shootings if it
bleeds it leads
so i don't know i don't know what the effect of covering this is small so we
have to talk about whether it's been covered with the shooters are being made
almost like an anti heroes where we're going into their psyche their background
their family tree
uh... they're they're all mine profiles and it's almost becoming like a baby
comes fetish eyes then it becomes where people say
well look at all the coverage that he would take me twenty years
maybe to be covered for something really really good that i could do
oregon gila kal week of coverage if they just kill a bunch of people in a really
heinous way
there there is that aspect
and do we and should we even get into the mental state of these people were is
that not even doing the issue here barge justice i'm not sure i'm not sure about
that we talked about that before we know that's really something we want to be
doing
all right let's take a break send me your thoughts on this also make sure to
give us a like on face book face book dot com slash david packing show
