Kirby's default is pink and how Sakurai had always envisioned the character. Kirby was
first seen in pink in Kirby's Adventure for the NES though. The first console game in
the franchise. Kirby's second is yellow as Miyamoto had envisioned
Kirby. Sakurai and Miyamoto briefly disagreed over how Kirby should appear. Ultimately,
it was decided Kirby would be pink and yellow Kirby would always have to be the first alternative
color. Therefore saving Sakurai and Miyamoto's friendship and allowing them to co-create
smash bros. Ever since this decision was made, Sakurai has always kept his promise. Kirby
also becomes yellow for various power-ups. Kirby's third is similar to the color Kirby
becomes whenever he has an ice power-up. This also was one of the color choices in Kirby
64 and Kirby's AirRide. Kirby's fourth resembles the colors of fire
based Kirby transformations. Like the others this, is a common multiplayer choice including
in Air Ride. Kirby's fifth resembles recent electricity
based Kirby transformations and was also in Kirby's air ride.
Kirby's last was also a choice in Air Ride, but came about due to the conflict between
Sakurai and Miyamoto over Kirby's design. When the time came for art to be made for
the game, it was unclear what color to make Kirby, so the art designers decided to make
him white to match the GameBoy screen.
