This video is about how to reference ebooks in your assignments using the APA referencing style - the most commonly used style here at Unitec.
In this video we will cover ebooks.
Acknowledging the resources in your assignment is a required practice for academic writing. It can seem picky and it is time consuming, but you can lose marks if you don't get it right.
Even the punctuation is important so please check our online guide to make sure you have it right.
I have here an ebook which I found on the library catalogue libsearch.
While writing your assignment you will cite this book in the text like this :
Referencing these books in your assignment using the APA format follows a standard pattern.
To put this book in your reference list at the end of your assignment you will need the following elements:
Authour's surname, initials, year, title and retrieval statement.
If the book was found freely on the internet, your reference will look the same except for the statement at the end. This should say: Available from URL....
The elements you need for your reference can be found by looking up the book on our catalogue.
If you cut and paste part of an ebook, it is a good idea to make a note of these elements so that you can complete the references properly.
Some ebooks suppliers will automatically include this information if you cut and paste from their books, but not all will so be careful.
Citing and referencing ebooks is tricky and takes time, we hope this video helps you get it right.
In our next video, we will cover how to deal with journal articles.
