hi and welcome! Today I'm going to show you how to install Fedora 23 on
VirtualBox step-by-step
We will also install guest additions for Fedora 23. I recommend you to watch the
entire video for successful Fedora installation. I'm going to use VirtualBox and
I assume VirtualBox is already installed on your system if not you can go to
VirtualBox website which is VirtualBox.org and then you can download and
install VirtualBox on your system
this video also helps if you are installing Fedora 23 on
physical hardware. Let's look at what we are going to do during this video
First, we'll go to Fedora website and download Fedora 23
installation media then we will create a virtual machine for Fedora 23 on
VirtualBox then we will start Fedora 23 installation. After the installation we will
do some post-installation tasks for Fedora. Let's start with step 1. Open up
your browser and go to Fedora website which is getfedora.org. As you can see
there are three types of Fedora. Workstation, Server and Cloud. In this video I'm going
to install Fedora 23 workstation so I click on this Download Now link. Click on
Download. Your download should begin in a few seconds. Save the ISO media to
your hard drive. As you can see I have already downloaded the installation media so I
click on cancel now. I close my browser. Second step is to create a virtual
machine for Fedora 23 on VirtualBox. Let's open up our VirtualBox
At VirtualBox home screen, click on New. Give a name for your Fedora virtual machine.
For example "Fedora23"
Choose Linux as a Type and choose Fedora 64-bit as Version. Then click on Next.
Adjust your virtual memory size for this virtual machine for example 2 GB.
Then click on Next. Create a virtual hard disk now.
Choose "VDI"
I use Dynamically allocated virtual hard disk file.
Specify how much disk space you want to use for this Fedora 23 virtual machine.
Now go to "Fedora23" and click on Settings.
Go to Advanced
and enable Shared Clipboard and Drag--Drop features.
Now go to System.
Un-check Floppy from the boot order .
Go to Processor.
I want to use 2 Processors for this
virtual machine. I also want to enable extended features. now go to storage and
Now go to Storage.
And click on Empty.
Click on this icon and
Choose Virtual Optical Disk File.
Select your Fedora ISO media.
Now go to Network.
Choose Bridged Adapter and make sure
your real network interface card is selected here.
Then click on OK.
Now we are ready to begin the installation. Click on Start
Choose Start Fedora or wait for 10 seconds.
Click on Install to Hard Drive.
At Welcome to Fedora 23 screen, choose your language
and then
click on Continue.
At this screen, we can set our Keyboard Layout, Time and Date settings.
Disk Partition layout, Network and Hostname settings.
If you want, you can add additional input sources.
You can set your Time Region here.
Click on Installation Destination. By default, it uses Automatically configure partitioning but
if you want, you can configure your partition layout manually.
For this video I will use the first option.
Now go to Network&Hostname
and set this system's hostname. For example: "fedora23"
Then click on Begin Installation.
Fedora 23 installation has just started but we can
set our Root password and we can create an
additional user at the screen.
Set your Root password here and then click on DONE.
Now I'm creating an additional user.
"SysAdmins Howto" for full name for example.
and
"sysadminshowto" is a username.
Let's make this user Administrator.
Set this user's password.
I use weak password for this demo installation but I recommend you to use a strong password.
Click on DONE.
Let me pause the recording. I'll come back when the installation is completed.
OK! I'm back.
Installation is completed. It took approximately 5 minutes.
Fedora is now successfully installed and ready for you to use. Let's go and Reboot our system.
Before Restart, go to Devices, and Un-mount Fedora installation media.
Choose Fedora.
Click on Next.
Choose your Keyboard Layout and then click on Next.
If you want you can use your online accounts.
and then Start using Fedora.
We can close GNOME help window.
That's it! We have just installed Fedora 23 on VirtualBox.
Let's go back to our installation notes.
Now we're going to perform some post installation tasks Fedora.
Go to Activities and type Terminal
Click on Terminal
Let's check our IP Configuration first.
Type your password.
As you can see, I have a valid IPv4 IP Configuration.
Let's try to ping to Google.
That's fine.
As you can see we cannot use Auto-resize Guest Display.
This is Guest Additions feature.
So, let's go and install Guest Additions for Fedora 23
Now I'm installing prerequisite packages for VirtualBox Guest Additions.
gcc and kernel-devel
Press "y" and Enter.
It's completed.
Let's clear our screen.
I recommend you to update your system before installing Guest Additions by running this command.
But for this demo installation, I will only update xorg packages on our system.
Default Xorg packages that comes with the ISO media cannot work with Guest Additions.
So, we have to upgrade our xorg packages but as I said before you can do full update for your system.
Now we're ready to begin the installation of VirtualBox Guest Additions.
Now you can go to Devices and click on Insert Guest Additions CD Image.
Then click on Run
Type your password and click on Authenticate.
VirtualBox Guest Additions installation has just started.
Now it's building the main guest additions module.
It takes approximately 1 or 2 minutes.
Installation is completed.
Press Enter and let's reboot our system.
As you can see, automatic screen adjustment is now working.
We can use Auto-resize Guest Display feature.
You can also use
Drag and drop file between host and guest operating systems.
I've just copied this file from my host to this Fedora virtual machine.
You can also use Clipboard Sharing between host and guest.
This text has been copied from the host clipboard.
Now you can start using your Fedora 23 on your VirtualBox.
In this video, we have installed Fedora 23 on VirtualBox step by step.
We have also installed Guest Additions for Fedora 23
