Hi guys! It's me, Chrissy from Cosmetic Fixation and today, I will be reviewing 3, well 4 products.
These were sent to me by a new brand that has just come to the Philippines. So it's
Virginia Olsen Minerals, these are three eyeshadows that I got to choose from their collection.
They also sent me a foundation, which is this one, it's "Beauty" shade... I think this is
a foundation sampler.
Anyway, I'm just gonna go right ahead to the review for the eyeshadows. Now, I was able
to get three shades, one of which is Summer Sun which is a nice canary yellow and it's
really low sheen, maybe a little bit kind of satiny.
And another one is oracle, which is kind of a deep chocolate brown. It's also low shimmer.
And the third one is Lodo. It's a nice grayish blue--dark grayish-blue. Well actually it's
more of a gray than blue, so that's dark bluish gray. So here is Lodo... You can see it there...
and this is Oracle--I really like the color on this, it's a really nice shade for contouring
and it's a really nice all-over shade... you can just sweep it on your eyes and you have
like this instant work everyday school thing. Well, everyday work or school look.
And then there is Summer Sun, which is really nice. I think it's a really nice, bright summery
yellow--they really hit the nail on the head when they were naming this one. This is my
favorite. It might not look that wearable, but I will prove to you that you can wear
it.
Just check out my blog (I will be linking it below) and you can see the look that I
did with all three of these shades.
Now, I'm gonna start off with Lodo. So this is Lodo, like I said this is Lodo and when
you swatch it on your skin, immediately you can see that it's kind of problematic. It
comes on streaky. When you put it on, when you start patting it on, the pigment really
sticks on your skin. But then the shimmers kind of gets moved around and as a result
it kind of looks streaky--dark and light all over and it's really something that I take
issue with cause when you apply this on your eyes and you try to blend it it's not gonna
look very good.
I am actually wearing Lodo on my eyes right now, I'm not wearing it over a base. It's
just Lodo applied directly on my eyelids. As you can see the color kind of changed--instead
of Lodo being like this dark, bluish-grey, it actually turned out looking kind of like
a taupe which is something that I don't really hate or anything but you know when you get
something, when you get a product, you kind of expect it to look how it looks in the jar.
So that was a bit of a disappointment for me, but not such a big deal.
And then I'm taking a look next at Oracle, you can see it here. And.. here's my swatch
in the middle. This is Oracle. It's kind of like Lodo too. It comes on really nicely,
but when the mica or shimmer shifts around, it gets kind of streaky. This one is not so
bad compared to Lodo. Oracle is decent, but I do take a little bit of an issue with the
fact that it feels kinda gritty. It's not that big of a deal, but you know, it would
have been nicer if it was smoother.
Lastly I'm going to take a look at Summer Sun, my favorite out of all of them. It came
on really nicely, it's really vibrant, pigmented... this is one smudge of the color. It's really
smooth, doesn't feel gritty at all, doesn't get inconsistent when you try to blend it...
Overall it's a really nice color and it's really wearable too and I will show you how
to do that later.
So yeah, those are the three colors. Overall, I think these are really nice colors. I like
them, you can wear Lodo and Oracle all over your lids as like a simple look for when you're
in a hurry and you don't really wanna do like highlight and contouring. What I did actually
today is I just put this shade Lodo all over my eyelid and I just added a highlight color
on my browbone and the inner corner of my eye.
They're low sheen, which is good for people like me who aren't too big on shimmer or glitter.
I don't really like my eyes looking like a disco ball, so this is really good for me.
Decent staying power... I can't tell you how well it would stay on oily lids if you don't
wear an eyeshadow base. But I usually wear an eyeshadow base with these things..with
any eyeshadow really. Right now I'm not wearing it over any base just so you can see how it
looks. But it stays really good with my Elite Minerals Mineral Eyeshadow Primer.
The price is good, I believe this is about 150 pesos or roughly around 3 US dollars for
one gram, which is a good price considering some other brands charge higher than that
or around the same for a little less product.
It has titanium dioxide in its formulation so it has SPF 19, which is really good since
you can't have too much SPF. But there are some things that I take issue with, some small
things, some are really significant when it comes to eyeshadows.
One of them is the inconsistent application of some of the colors. In particular, Lodo.
It just really goes on really streaky, it's hard to blend, when you try to blend it it
kind of gets patchy, and the color changes so it's not the same as in the jar compared
to when you put it on your eye...
The packaging is nice for me but for some people it might look a little cheap cause
it's a plastic jar and it's kind of like this matte silver thing. Would probably be nicer
if it was black, but you know it's nice for me, it's decent. It's something I would expect
for the price we got. I wouldn't expect like a glass jar for 3$.
The cap is a little messy. You know the lids on the tablets or pills..the bottles of pills
or tablets you get like the lids they kind of like have an insert where it's styrofoamy
so that.. I guess it's better sealed, this is how it is on the lid of this jar too. Which
is nice I think because it makes it air tight and it vacuum seals it in, but my issue is
that it's kind of messy. Even if I keep rubbing at the lid to get the color out it just stays
on there, which isn't such a big deal for some, but it's something that I'm a little
obsessive about.
Like I said it's kind of hard to blend when I put it on my eyes even over base or even
if I foil it or apply it wet. When I try to start blending it it kind of gets streaky,
start blending over one spot and then that spot gets patchy and you have to compensate
but then it gets worse and worse so eventually I just decided to take it off.
The foundation is something that I will probably review in detail another time, but for now
I'll just have a quick look. This is the foundation in the "Beauty" shade, which is nice to me
but it's a little bit too sheer for my taste. You apply it on and you can just see that
it vanishes into your skin which is good, but it's also not that helpful when it comes
to coverage. I usually use this as a setting powder for my Tony Moly Expert Triple BB cream.
I will be looking at that deeper another time but for now that will be my review about Virginia
Olsen Minerals Eyeshadow.
