Hello. My name is Ika and I work as a librarian at Södertörn University.
In this video I’ll show you how to search for scholarly articles in SöderScholar.
Here is an example of a question formulation.
What motivates a user to publish images on Instagram?
Key words: Instagram, photo, publish, sharing, motivation.
We begin our search in English.
There are only a few results.
And none of them are relevant.
Let’s try some other key words.
The same again … only a few results.
There is probably not a lot of research about Instagram, -
- as it is a relatively new service.
One alternative is to try and find something more general, for example, 'social media'.
We’ll refine the search to scholarly articles only. 15 00:01:14,9 --> 00:01:17,9 Some of these articles may give an overview of the subject, -
- but we’ll need to use other search words.
Let’s try 'photo', 'sharing', 'motivation'.
There are some interesting articles here.
Another alternative is to investigate other social media, -
- for example, 'Facebook', 'Twitter', 'Flickr', 'Tumblr'.
There are some results here that could be interesting.
We’re finished.
