I design buildings and this one in particular that we’re in right now. I knew I was going
to live in this building. One place I would not allow compromise was the windows and doors.
They were such an important element in giving me piece of mind.
The Jersey Shore, in particular Seaside Heights and the Jersey Shore area here is a resort
town. I think everybody’s brought their kids here from the regional metropolitan area.
I was a 10 year old in 1953. We used to come here to enjoy the Shore. The rides on that
shore, on that pier are the same rides that were there 75 years ago. And they’re gone.
They’re all gone.
Hurricane Sandy took it all away. That one four day stint of a combination phase of the
moon, high tide and a nor’easter combined to create a surge which was a once, hopefully
once in a lifetime surge. And washed homes, the boardwalk, rides, amusements, people’s
lives down into the water.
I came here with anxiousness in my heart to see what damage had been done by this serious
storm. And I was pleasantly surprised to see that in the units, there wasn’t a drop of
water. There wasn’t a leak. There wasn’t an issue. And I breathed a sigh of relief
and I said I’m going to use those 400 Series again.
My house was under seven feet of water, this first level. And the wave action of another
three or four feet were banging up against these windows on that second level. And everything
was dry as a bone.
I visited three or four other dwellings in the coastal area with the Andersen 400 Series
in them. Spoke to the clients. Interviewed the clients. And they had no issues. They
said it’s unbelievable. I was very proud to see everything there intact. That’s the
beauty of the 400 Series Stormwatch windows is that they don’t allow the wind and the
rain to come in which is the big benefit. Now the house is going to sustain the storm.
