Welcome to the Smoke Learning Channel.
In this video we will be looking how to restore a previously backed up project.
This will include the project settings, media and set ups.
For whatever reason you may have to sometimes go back and revisit old work.
Perhaps you need to create an updated version of your production or you need to source some elements.
Whatever the situation, if you had backed up your work using the Smoke project archiving,
you should be able to restore the project back to its entirety.
Let’s first start off in the finder.
This folder contains all the archive files created by Smoke when the project was originally backed up.
It is important to note that all the archive files need to be in the same folder.
If you had backed them up to separate mediums such as DVDs for example, than you will have to copy them all to the same location.
The other consideration is if you are restoring a project back into Smoke,
is that there must not be an existing project with the same name.
In the projects and user settings, I just have one other project I have been working on.
When Smoke performs a project restore, it will create the project
and unload all the archive contents into the newly created project.
Remembering these two main points should make project restoring a much easier process.
To restore a project, you need to be in any of your other existing Smoke projects in order for you
to be able to access the MediaHub.
You need to switch to the archives mode and navigate to the folder containing the archive.
In the Smoke browser, all you will see is one archive file compared to what you saw in the finder.
Just select it and press “Open Archive”.
The archive has now opened in the browser and in the tab below you can see all the archive’s details.
To restore the project, simply select the project folder in the browser and click “Restore Project”.
Smoke begins the restore process and you can monitor it at the bottom of the interface.
Once the restore is complete, you can close the archive.
Let’s just check that the archive has restored correctly.
Click the File menu and choose Project and User settings.
Switch to the restored project and press LOAD.
Once the load process is complete, close the Projects and User Settings window.
Having a look, you can see in this project, that it should have restored exactly how it was in the original
before it was originally archived.
