Hi ya'll I'm Anna
And today I'm going to talk to you about text and the lingo that goes with it.
First lets start with a model of what we use to write the letters!
This model helps us to utilize the space for writing each letter
There are 5 parts, the Ascend Line, Cap Height, X-height, Base Height, and Descend Line.
Next I am going to tell you some the anatomy of our letters.
Our letters' anatomy was defined as if it was the human body, which made it easy for
those making the letters to talk about a certain part with one another.
Counters, are the spaces inside the letter
You can have an open and/or closed counter
Every letter has counters
Next are Serifts, which are the lines that extend from the strokes of the letter
But when you have Sefifs, you also have San Serifs
San Serifs are letters without the stroke
Here are some examples of both Serif and San Serif fonts for you guys
Some common fonts that we use are Times New Roman and Helvetica
Here's a little FYI: Helvetica is the most commonly used font in the world and was created
in Switzerland!
The only letter with a backbone, is the "S". It's anatomy is a spine
Letters that have have arms, "E" and "K"
And thats these parts right here
Though we don't have tails, our letters do, "Q", "y", "p", "q", & "j"
The tails are what descend into the Descending Line of our model
We have shoulders, so why shouldn't our letters?!
Lowercase "n" & "h" have the small shoulder-like hump
And lastly, why do we use Italics?!
Does anyone know what the the meaning behind it's creation was???
Well it was designed so the people writing could fit more words onto the page or into
a
text
Thanks for watching and I hope everyone has an awesome week!
