"I'm Tim Flynn and I'm the owner of Winters Plumbing and Heating in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Winters Company offers plumbing, heating, cooling. If you need service today; we're
the business to call. My website is wintershomeservices.com. I'll be talking to you today about plumbing.
How you go to the plumbing business? I can tell you about my personal experience. And
I am master plumber in Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We serve right now a three year apprenticeship
back when I become a plumber. Now, it's a five year apprenticeship. So, when apprentice
is somebody that is going to work on the direction of a master plumber or licensed plumber for
that time period and teach him or her how to install things correctly by code. And how
to install fixture, plumbings, piping, etc. all to coat.
Once, they are an apprentice, a registered apprentice, they are eligible to attend school.
And they have to attend school for extra amount of hundred of hours. So, we have practical,
and then, we have written examinations that we go through at the end of that apprenticeship.
At the end of apprenticeship, you have to take a test. Usually, it's a state proctored
exam lasting anywhere from to four to six hours. And once, you have taken that exam,
you find out at that point if you become a licensed plumber. Once you become a licensed
plumber then you have to work in the field as a licensed plumber to become a master plumber
which is what I am.
First thing here, I believe everyone needs to do is take a lot of business courses, accounting
especially. Accounting courses, learning how to price things, learning how to become a
profitable business because without profit, you go to be, your business is going to be
out really soon."
