A baby gorilla who was diagnosed with pneumonia last week is said to be 'doing great' as her
health begins to improve. The little one has been treated for the illness, as well as having
one of her lungs reinflated after it collapsed.
She has now improved enough to begin drinking baby formula from bottles and can now breathe
on her own.
The baby gorilla is recovering from pneumonia and she's doing great this morning. All her
vital signs are normal and she looks fantastic. She's really doing well on the formula. She's
getting a lot of calories now, and you can see that she changes every day. She's developing
normally and very rapidly.
The baby girl, who is yet to be named, was delivered by emergency C-section on March
13 at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, after mum Imani went into labour but was unable to complete
the delivery.
Imani has now recovered from her C-section and is back hanging out with the rest of the
park's gorillas.
Once the baby gorilla is healthy enough, zoo staff hope to reunite Imani with her little
girl.
