So what will you wear with your Polo shirts and your Oxfords? Well, the first basic piece
is a nice pair of jeans. And the kind of jeans selected by preps is really very important.
It's a basic cut, it's not too trendy, it's not too tight, it's not ripped, it's not a
light wash. So you want a dark wash, a substantial jean, in a really classic cut, and this can
be worn with everything. The second staple would be a pair of khaki pants. And, I mean,
I am wearing khaki shorts in black, in Bermuda shorts which is the third real staple. And
Bermuda shorts I think are just a really good example of what prep is in general, because
they're a classic cut, they're not tight, they're not too short, nothing's really showing,
but it's a sturdy fabric and it's still very attractive. And so something in a black or
in a khaki color, or with jeans, is really the basic for a bottom as far as this goes.
You never wear a skirt that's very short, you don't wear short shorts. You might have
a nice pair of chino shorts to go with it. But really, you want a great trouser line
to go with the shirts on top. And when you put them together, they should both have the
same kind of fit. Once again I can't stress it enough, not too tight, or not too short.
It's all about taste.
