Hi and welcome to the second video and my intro to REDkit video series
If you don't already have it open
open the arena level, right-click world
in the scene explorer and click load all
after everything is loaded go ahead and unload the vegetation group
the tutorial group
this sounds group
the lights group
and the environments group
you can also i hide the denied areas and paths layers
that we would can see clearly everything that's going on
i regularly load and unload layers and groups as i work on them
REDkit has a tendency to crash is an operation hangs too long
so keeping the scene lightweight will help with that
It's a good habit to get into and it will generally speed up your workflow
also hopefully save you some grief from crashes
so to select an object inside REDkit simply click it
if you right click
and choose show in scene explore it'll open the hierarchy
inside the scene explorer and show you what layer and group the selected
item is in
When you click something you'll likely notice this little red green
blue gizmo pop up on the selected item
if you've ever worked with a 3D program or another game editor this
should look familiar to you but if not, don't sweat it, it's pretty simple concept
there are three basic operations you can do to to each object
move scale and rotate
pressing space bar cycles through these
Note that the gizmo is a bit different for each operator but for the most part
they're the same
the blue is the y axis, the red is the x axis and the green z axis
clicking in between tracks is all i need to upgrade freely on both
clicking in the center will highlight
all axis and you can move it in three dimensions or scale in this case
Go ahead and select an item such as this bridge piece and move it around
rotate it
and scale it, get a good feel for these controls because you're gonna be using them a lot
These controls appear on the top are also
very useful for moving stuff around
This one on the left that says ten centimeters is your move distance
so if you crank that down to one centimeter when you move something it's
going to be very
very smooth
but if you move it up to a meter
each time you move it, it's going to snap a meter from where it was
It's really helpful if you're lining stuff, or building of a big building out of a
bunch of pieces
now the one directly to the right of that is the rotation angle so if it is one degree
when you're rotating it's going to rotate by one degree at a time, very smooth
however if you crank it up to
thirty degrees it snaps to 30 degrees so it's much more drastic
So now you know how to move things around in the game world
The next video will cover the asset browser and how you can find the objects and
assets to place in your scene
