bjbjz Wells Fargo Phoenix History museum YouTube transcript VOICE OVER: Unleash a group of
60 fourth-graders in a museum, and you might expect chaos. Student on video: "Can I have
some money, Shawn?" VOICE OVER: But here at the Wells Fargo History Museum in Phoenix,
that's OK-- because interaction is encouraged! Amanda speaking to kids: This museum has been
designed for you to pick it up, touch it, see how it works, try it out. Sound cool?
Kids: yeah! SOUNDBITE, Amanda Walters We fit third, fourth and fifth grade curriculum standards
for the state of Arizona. So our goal is to, first and foremost, make the kids have fun
while they re learning and one of the best parts of the museum is how hands-on it is.
The kids get to try the interactive things like the telephones and the telegraph machines
and see how things worked prior to instant messaging and cell phones. Fourth-grader off
cam says "How's the phone working?" SOUNDBITE, Aiden (4th grader) I thought it was, you know
gonna be more, like boring. But this was really fun. All the exhibits, they, we could touch
them, its pretty much just letting us pretty much experience what s here. VOICE OVER: And
what's here includes exhibits that are unique to Arizona. SOUNDBITE, Connie Whalen The things
that are really amazing about this museum and unique are three things that I can think
of: the art collection, the gold collection and then our Tombstone collection that we
have. VOICE OVER: : The Tombstone collection includes a payroll ledger book noting one-time
Wells Fargo employees Morgan and Wyatt Earp, known for their role in the Gunfight at the
O.K. Corral! And the gold and mineral collection is also rich in history. SOUNDBITE, Connie
Whalen All of the gold that s in this collection was collected just 50 miles north of here
in the Bradshaw Mountains. And the large nugget that we have is one of the top three largest
nuggets still in existence in Arizona. We made a mold to make the nugget the same weight
as the nugget that s in the case so people could get an idea of how heavy that was. SOUNDBITE,
Jake Medlin (4th grader) I think I liked the, um... how heavy a piece of gold is in real
life. VOICE OVER: But one cultural collection really sets this museum apart. SOUNDBITE,
Chris Adix My favorite part of the job is is probably showing people the art gallery.
The art gallery features several very well-known artists, the western-themed artists especially
like Charles Russell and Frederick Remington and even Maynard Dixon... But we also have
the largest western-themed collection of NC Wyeths anywhere in the world. And NC Wyeth,
a lot of people have forgotten who he was, and they ll ask if he was any relation to
Andrew. Well, he was the father. SOUNDBITE, Shriya (4th grader) I think my favorite part
was all of the cool statues and pictures in the art museum. SOUNDBITE, Cheryl Thomas,
visitor The art gallery was a great surprise. It really portrays for everyone who s not
from the West the way that it is here... the horses, the transport, the landscape ... it
s so different, it s so unique to this area... VOICE OVER: The museum attracts more than
twenty thousand visitors a year to its downtown Phoenix location. SOUNDBITE, Lynne Gardetto
I think it s great that they have opened this up to the community... And I am actually going
to spread the word with other teachers in 4th grade who can come over here to learn
more about the Arizona history. SOUNDBITE, Jeff S. I think it s a great place to direct
people to, to learn more about our brand. So by having the museum right here where we
re located, downtown... It allows us to just be able to showcase what we re all about from
the historical perspective to what we do today. }f}fSf}S hQ29 [Content_Types].xml _rels/.rels
