I ran my first Marathon in this shoe and let me tell you...
I absolutely, absolutely loved it.
The New Balance 1400 V4 is absolutely the best running shoe that I have ever ran in. At 7.7 ounces, the New Balance 1400 V4 is
a neutral road racer that has a heel to toe drop of 10mm and retails for 100 dollars.
Lets get right into it and discuss the positives of the New Balance 1400 V4.
First of all, the upper. The New Balance 1400 V4 utilize what New Balance
calls a Fantom fit upper, which is pretty much a fuse, seamless upper that maintains
breathability and light weight support at the same time.
I must say that when I tried on the shoe in store, this was the best fitting shoe that
I have ever tried on. It was almost like the shoe was created for
me because there is absolutely no dead space where I dont want dead space.
There is no pinching. There is no hot spots.
It was just perfect you know. I slid on the shoe and was like this is perfect.
There is no seam on the inside of the upper except one seam right here where the upper
and the tongue is attached. Other than that the inside of the shoe is totally smooth.
Its absolutely a gorgeous, gorgeous fit. I absolutely love this fit.
The upper itself is also extremely, extremely breathable.
All the mesh vents that you see on the forefoot, on the side panel right here, right here,
right here they are all open mesh which means that you can see light through them, which
means that air can get through these materials pretty easily, keeping your feet dry and cool
at all times. On the day of the Marathon it was pretty hot
itself, but my feet didnt feel too hot thanks for the breathable upper of the New Balance
1400 V4. On this shoe there is also this jersey material
that is used on the ankle collar and the tongue. This material is very soft itself. You know
I was wearing socks with these of course. It is very very soft and very very smooth.
The thread used to make this material is very very thin.
I really dig how this feels. Like I really love this feature right here. It just increases
the comfort by a whole lot. You know, I really like that.
Plastic and rubbery overlays are also found on the upper of the New Balance 1400 V4. Now
these are in place to protect the mesh upper and make the shoe more durable.
They are a very very nice quality plastic overlay. It does move with your feet. It is
there to give you structural support while providing durability.
Again, the upper on the New Balance 1400 V4 just makes you kinda like feel like you are
wearing nothing. Like this is not so much a shoe shoe, its
more like less of a shoe shoe. If you understand what I mean.
The upper on the New Balance 1400 V4 does exactly what its name, Fantom Fit, suggest.
Due to the breathability, excellent fit, and softness of the upper, you really dont feel
much of the upper when you are running. Overall, I love the upper on the New Balance
1400 V4. Moving on to the next positive point I want
to talk about the support and lockdown of this shoe right here.
So the support and lockdown feature is quite simple in this shoe.
You have a plastic midfoot shank right under your feet as you can see through this little
window right here. You also have an internal heel cup to keep
your heel locked in place, and finally you have the best fitting upper that I have ever
tried on. So these three things working together, the
lockdown and support of the shoe is actually very very good.
You have plenty of flexibility in the forefoot. It is very very flexible but the midfoot is
rigid, heel is locked in, and this wonderful upper to keep your feet locked in at all times.
Therefore, the support and lockdown of the New Balance 1400 V4 is actually something
that I enjoyed a whole lot. Especially the lockdown part and I just cant
get over how well this shoe fits my feet. I absolutely love it.
I also really enjoy how nimble and fast this shoe really is.
Due to the lightweight upper and the low stack height midsole of this shoe, the New Balance
1400 V4 really is a fast and nimble racing flat.
Like just putting this shoe on makes you feel faster because how lightweight and how responsive
this shoe really is. That is something I really enjoy and I really
love that feeling therefore huge thumbs up. Flexibility is also another strong point in
this shoe. There isnt really much I can explain about
that, but just look at this. Moving on with the positives, now I wanna
talk about the cushioning a little bit. The cushioning in the New Balance 1400 V4
utilize what New Balance call REVLITE foam. This is my first experience with REVLITE midsole
and I must say I enjoyed it quite a bit. Compared to Nike Lunarlon, which is more spongy,
REVLITE from New Balance is actually a lot more responsive and springy.
There is enough cushioning in the heel if you want to heel strike, laid back go slow
a little bit. There is also plenty in the forefoot if you wanna go fast, get on your
toes and just blast off. While I ran my Marathon I had no problem with
the cushioning of this shoe. Well, I had no problems with this shoe in
general. But the cushioning in this shoe is enough
for me, an average dude that is 175lbs to run long distances.
Overall, I enjoyed the cushion a whole lot, I loved how responsive and springy REVLITE
is. I love the feeling of acceleration in this
shoe. I love the feeling of going fast in this shoe.
Really, really like the cushioning on the New Balance 1400 V4.
The ride of the shoe itself is another huge plus for the New Balance 1400 V4.
It is fast, it is nimble, it is fluid, it is very smooth and it is just near perfect
in my opinion. When I think of running shoes, I like to compare
them to cars. The New Balance 1400 V4 for me is like a Ferrari
or a Porsche. It is fast, it is agile, it is just an awesome experience in this shoe.
Last and final positive I want to say about this shoe is its price point.
It is only 129 dollars in Canada and 100 dollars in the United States.
Considering the shoe market right now, 100 bucks, this is very cheap.
This is a bargain, considering the amount of tech used in this shoe. Considering how
well this shoe fits.Considering how well this shoe rides, 100 bucks is worth it. I promise
you guys. Now lets talk about the negatives of the New
Balance 1400 V4. To be honest, there isnt too much. There is
only 3, and two of them doesnt even really count. So lets talk about it.
The first negative that I want to mention is the durability of the outsole of this shoe.
Now I have ran a full marathon in this shoe plus a handful of training runs, the rubber
on the outsole especially the forefoot where I strike is already starting to come off and
its coming off alot. So therefore I dont think this shoe is very
very extremely durable. The rubber is on the soft side for a running
shoe. So I dont think you can get like a thousand miles or something out of this shoe. However
again, considering this is a racing flat designed to go fast, this is your racer, I dont think
that the durability issue is a deal breaker. You are still getting a wonderful shoe for
100 dollars. The second thing I want to talk about in terms
of negatives is this guy right here, the insole. This insole is very very thin. There are plenty
of ventilation holes on the bottom . Very nice. However it is very thin.
I think it would be alot better if New Balance utilize an Ortholite insole in this shoe,
therefore giving it even more lightweight cushioning.
Personally, I dont mind this insole. Dont think Im saying this insole is terrible. It
is not terrible at all, but I do think a Ortholite insole will make this more comfortable.
The third negative I want to talk about is something that I already mentioned and that
is the cushioning. This shoe is built to be fast, nimble, agile,
ground feel and all of that. This is not a maximum cushioned shoe.
Therefore if you are looking for that max cushion, max padding, high stack height shoe.
This is not it. If you are running in this shoe and you step
on rocks and stuff you are going to feel that little rock.
Personally, I enjoy the ground feel. I like how fast this shoe goes but again if you are
looking for that max cushioned shoe this is definitely not it and I really don t suggest
you buying these if you are looking for a maximum cushioned shoe.
Alright guys, that is about it for the New Balance 1400 V4. Overall, I enjoyed this shoe
quite a lot. This is the best running shoe that I have ever put on my feet. I absolutely
love running in these. It makes me feel fast, nimble, agile. There are plenty of cushioning
for me. I really donèt wanna cuss, but the upper
is freaking fire. I absolutely love it. Other than that, there isn't really much to
talk about this shoe. Thank you guys for watching this review and if you enjoyed the review
