SARAH HAUER: Hi, I'm Sarah Hauer. SIG HAUER: And I'm Sig Hauer, and we're professional
practitioners of traditional Chinese medicines. SARAH HAUER: We're here on behalf of Expert
Village. SIG HAUER: And welcome to our video. This is a "zhi gan cao" which is sliced, honey-fried
licorice root. This is used in quite a few formulas because it tends to help lead herbs
to all 12 channels. And the other thing, big property that it has, is that it also helps
to ameliorate or kind of settle the properties of other herbs so that they don't come across
so strong in a formula, so to speak. A very commonly used herb, I also kind of use this
as a remedy for people with sore throat. I'll tell them just take a piece and chew on it
for while. Don't swallow it, but just chew on it for a while, and this soothes a sore
throat.
