What is the XING API?
The XING API is an interface for external developers
that allows them to access and use features we offer
for their own purposes.
The XING API helps you to feed a product you're currently working on
with data provided by XING so you can identify your users
and show your customers who's using your product.
As far as I understand, the API is an interface
that programmers can access so they can build their own stuff.
Well, let's see ... I think the API is an interface
between members and the XING platform.
Jo: What's the XING API? It's a kind of plug socket
that developers can plug into. It opens XING...
(laughter)... Is that what it is?
Here's the answer from one of the engineers who worked on the API.
API stands for application programming interface
and is basically an interface between machines.
To put it simply, here's XING.
XING consists of several servers, databases and other systems
that communicate directly with the website and form a closed system.
This means that no one can get in from outside,
the websites can communicate among one another,
just like any other website.
So, we've also got requirements such as mobile apps
and partners who also want to use our data and features.
And that's precisely where the API comes into play.
The API is a specific channel that passes through this wall
where we can specify what external systems
are allowed to do and what not.
This means that our own mobile app can also access data
within our data center, call up features, and display user profiles.
And that's exactly what external partners will be able to do.
And that's our API.
Thanks to all contributors
But that isn't possible due to the wall we've built up around ourselves.
