Pima Community College has long been recognized as one of the leading aviation
technology programs in the nation.
With the recent donation of an $800,000 Boeing 727
airplane from Federal Express,
the emotions were running high at the dedication ceremony.
We are very mindful
we are part of the infrastructure
that prepares the work force.
Through your sacrifice, through your hard work
where you're going to be able to support your family where you're going to be able to
contribute your community, and we're you're going to make Tucson a stronger place.
Together
industry, elected officials,
and higher education can build a
highly-skilled workforce
that will make Tucson a much better place for all of us.
Students in PCC's airframe and power plant, avionics and structural repair
programs
will be able to work on a real 727.
Hands on training of this nature is rare among aviation technology programs
It will propel PCC students to greater career advancement. This educational
opportunity is one reason students who graduate from the aviation program
are in high demand by industry employers.
FedEx has a long standing relationship with
Pima Community College. Ten years ago we had
donated an airplane for their A&P school.
They have actually
plum through it. So they have
worn out the engine they have put so many students through their program when they approached us
and they were needing another aircraft, we are
familiar with their school and
we know it's a good fit and that they will get the hands on
use of this asset.
We do train for general aviation, the small aircraft,
but the FAA has allowed us to gear all our projects in our curriculum on the
larger transport category aircraft
that have much more complex systems
much more
composite work
larger uh... structure to work on
We have places like SkyWest comes in recruits, Bombardier
Marana Aerospace, Ascent
Timken right here locally as well
uh... American Turbo Systems all those is right here.
So their outlook for job placement is phenomenal. We do not offer placement. We don't have to.
We do
needs analysis
to determine what those companies need right down to a task analysis.
Exactly what skills do you require where do you require those skills. what would you
consider the perfect employees. We document those things bring back to
this location and we build everything around that.
What it means to me is that I have a
unique skill set and I'm able to use and to be able to work anywhere in the
United States and some places
sometimes maybe even other countries.
It means to me that I'm able to do something that I love
and get paid to do it.
