Hi everyone, welcome to my 7th tutorial
I am back, I hope your week went well. I decided to do my new video about "How to make a pants hem".
It's sometimes difficult to find in stores the perfect size.
My problem, is that the pants are always too long as I am quite small!
I am forced all the time to roll up the bottom of my pants. It's not very nice, so I decided to make this video to teach you how to sew a hem.
We will need some accessories that I am going to introduce to you.
A meter A pair of scissor Thread Textile chalk Pins Your pants
The first step of our tutorial is to put on your pants to see where you pant the hem to be made.
Once with your pants on,
you need your pins.
The most important is not to wear shoes, so it won't distort our measure.
Take your pants, pull it at its maximum, and roll it up at the emplacement you want the hem to be made.
I chose the ankle.
Now, I fix the pants with the pins.
Repeat the action with the other leg.
Here's the result. Take off your pants to start the next step.
Now, you have to make sure both of the legs are the same length.
Fold the pants in two, put one leg against the other. Make sure to do this on a flat surface.
If it's the same length, let's continue!
To do a hem, you need to let four/five centimeters between the spot where you want your pants to end and where you will cut.
Take your meter and the textile chalk.
Measure four centimeters and a half and do a mark. Make different marks.
To help you, you can then connect the marks by drawing the entire line.
Then, take the pins off.
Revert the pants and put it back on a flat position.
Now we are going to cut where you did the line. Take your scissor, and cut.
Another step done!
Before starting the sewing, I am going to show you how to fill
a bobbin because I've been asked in another video.
A bobbin is this little piece of plastic that
you found beneath the needle.
To fill it, you have to choose the color of the wire that you want.
Put your coil at the right place, make the
wire goes into the little hook, make it goes around the pastille and put the wire into
one of the little hole you can see on your bobbin.
Make a circle around the bobbin with your thread.
Put the bobbin at its emplacement. Lock it.
Once it's done, you need the sewing treadle to fill your bobbin.
You just have to press it.
And your bobbin is done! You can put it back beneath the needle.
Now that our pants is cutted,
we are going to do
a zigzag stitches so the pants won't fray.
Here is the zigzag stitches on your sewing machine.
We are now going to sew both of the bottom of our pants.
Last part now, we are going to finish your hem.
About the wire, make sure you chose a color that matches the color of your pants or matches the color of the current seam.
As the seams are showy on my pants, I decide to do an apparent sewing.
Now that your zigzag stitches is done, fold your pants. Be careful there is the same length everywhere.
Fix it with pins. Repeat the same action on the other leg.
I start sewing, after making sure I chose a normal stitch
Your pants hem is now done! Reverse your pants and put it on to see the result.
Here is the secret to have perfect pants that suit you well!
If you understand every step of this tutorial and that some other of your pants need hems, keep going!
