Veterinary Technology Careers Transcript My name is Mary Oberson and I’m a program
chair for the veterinary technology program. Career opportunities for our students include
things like small animal practice—dogs, cats, reptiles, birds—as well as large animal
opportunities, especially in the dairy industry. They can also go into specialty practices
such as emergency clinics. Other newer opportunities for our students
include research, which is a growing industry, as well as dog training and dog care facilities,
where pet owners are starting to spend a lot of money in this area and they’re going
to want quality care for their pets. As students gain experience in the field and
find their special areas of interest, one of the things they can do is move on and choose
good continuing education. We’re required to do a specific amount of continuing education
based on the state that you’re licensed in, and students can pick things that are
of interest to them, and then become more of an asset to their clinic, or open up other
job opportunities for themselves.
